Inside the Elizabeth Tower Tickets and Dates

Inside the Elizabeth Tower

UK Parliament's Estate Archivist and Historian, Dr Mark Collins, delivers part two of this Elizabeth Tower talk series. We'll explore the inside of the tower and learn about the advanced technical achievements which continue to impress today. Dr Collins will provide an insight into the vital conservation project - the largest in the tower's history - that reinvigorated these 19th century technical achievements and brought them into a condition fit for the 21st century.

You will hear about different elements, including the gantry which made it possible to erect the tower, the 334-step spiral stairwell constructed from tough limestone, advancements in gas lighting, and the various applications of electricity. You’ll also learn how the Elizabeth Tower functioned as a ventilation system for the Palace of Westminster, and pick up a few interesting facts about the Ayrton light and Big Ben, too.

This event lasts 1 hour and includes 15 minutes at the end for you to ask questions.
Limited tickets are available for those wishing to attend the talk in person at UK Parliament at a cost of £5.00. Your ticket includes a free Elizabeth Tower poster which you will receive on the day. We will send full details of how to plan your visit following registration.
