A Historic Farewell: Elizabeth II's Lying-in-State

Step into the historic Palace of Westminster for an exhibition exploring a significant moment in national life. A Historic Farewell: Art as Witness to the Lying-in-State of Queen Elizabeth II presents artworks from UK Parliament that recorded the Lying-in-State of the late monarch in 2022. 

During the Lying-in-State in Westminster Hall, six UK artists observed and recorded the ceremony and the activity surrounding it. The artworks they made now form part of the Parliamentary Art Collection and will be displayed for the first time in this exhibition.

 

Highlights of the exhibition include:

• Newly Unveiled Artworks
  View works created by six artists commissioned to document the Lying-in-State and associated activity at the Palace of Westminster. Explore how the artists observed both the ceremonial elements of the Lying-in-State and the wider activity through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textile and film.
• Part of the Parliamentary Art Collection
  Discover how these new artworks contribute to Parliament’s ongoing record of significant national events.

The exhibition takes place in Westminster Hall. 

Please note that your ticket will only give you access to the exhibition and Westminster Hall. You will not be able to access other areas of the Palace of Westminster.
